Family Migration to Australia
Family migration visas for Australia are designed to allow Australian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their family members to join them in Australia. For this purpose, the Australian Government proposes the following categories for family migration:
MIGRATION FOR PARTNERS
A partner visa enables the spouse of an Australian citizen or permanent resident to live in Australia. They are required to furnish valid proof of a genuine and registered marriage relationship with intent to live together permanently.
Partner visas have the following subclass:
Partner Visa Subclass 820
Partner Visa Subclass 820 is the first stage of obtaining permanent partner visa. This is a temporary visa allowing the visa holder to stay in Australia with his/her spouse until the application and decision of the permanent partner visa (subclass 801) is made.

- Study in Australia (without government funding)
- Enroll in Medicare (Australian scheme for health related expenses)
Partner Visa Subclass 801
Partner Visa Subclass 801 allows the spouse of an Australian citizen or permanent resident to stay in Australia permanently. It is required that the applicant is in Australia at the time of application and decision of the visa.

- Work and study in Australia
- Apply for Australian citizenship (based on eligibility)
- Sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence
- Avail social security benefits
- Travel to and from Australia for five years from the date the visa is granted.
Application for both visa sub classes are made at the same time, however, the processing is done in 2 phases.
Prospective Marriage Visa Subclass 300
The Prospective Marriage Visa Subclass 300 is designed for those who are outside Australia and intend to marry an Australian citizen or permanent resident. This visa is basically a temporary visa and is valid till 9 months.

- Stay in Australia for 9 months
- Work in Australia
- Study in Australia (no access to Government funds)
- Apply for a Partner visa after marriage.
- Travel in and out of Australia as often as you want.
MIGRATION FOR PARENTS
Under its family migration program, the Australian government allows Australian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their parents who are outside Australia to join them. This purpose, the following subclass has been designed:
Parent Visa (Subclass 103)
Parent Visa (Subclass 103) allows parents of Australian citizens or permanent residents who have been sponsored by their kids to move to Australia and join them there. To obtain this visa, the applicant is required to meet the balance of family test and other requirement, upon successful completion of which, the visa is granted.

The family migration under its visa categories for children allows parents to sponsor their child to live with them permanently in Australia.
Child Visa (Subclass 802)
Child Visa is designed for parents who are Australian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their child who is in Australia. This visa allows the child to stay in Australia permanently.

Adoption Visa (subclass 102) under the family migration program enables children under the age of 18 years who are adopted outside Australia to join his/her adoptive parents in Australia and stay there with them.

Relative visa for Australia is designed for those individuals who want to live in Australia permanently and are dependent on their relatives who are Australian citizens or permanent residents.
Aged Dependent Relative Visa Subclass 838:
This visa subclass is for those individuals who are old but meet certain age requirements and are dependent on an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Under this visa, they can live in Australia permanently.

- Apply for Australian citizenship. (Based on eligibility)
- Travel to and from Australia as a permanent resident for five years.
Remaining Relative Visa Subclass 115:
This visa subclass is for those individuals who are outside Australia and all their close relatives are Australian citizens or permanent residents. Through this visa they can join their relatives in Australia and stay there permanently.
